Who’s on The One Show tonight?
John Cleese, 78, was born in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.
He began his career as a scriptwriter, before moving to America where he performed on and off-Broadway.
His big break came when he joined forces with former Cambridge university friend Graham Chapman to write Monty Python. The show ran from 1967 to 1974.
He portrayed Basil Fawlty in Fawlty Towers, which he co-wrote with his then-wife Connie Booth.
John also found success in films, starring in A Fish Called Wanda – which he also wrote – Bond films The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day, and The Pink Panther.
He now tours with various comedy shows.
John has been married four times; to Connie Booth, Barbara Trentham, Alyce Eichelberger and current wife Jennifer Wade.
He has two children; Cynthia and Camilla.
His daughter Camilla, who will appear on The One Show alongside him this evening, currently performs a stand-up show produced by her dad.
Camilla, who lives in Los Angeles, has said: “I’m incredibly lucky to have him as a personal tutor most of the time because I learned so much sitting and listening to him at work as a kid.”
