A GIRL aged just nine has lost her life after rocks fell from a cliff on a Yorkshire beach.
Emergency services rushed to the scene but were unable to save the tragic schoolgirl.
Where is Staithes?
Staithes is a seaside destination in North Yorkshire, ten miles north of Whitby.
The picturesque fishing village lies in the North York Moors National Park.

What happened at the cliffs?
A nine-year-old girl died after suffering serious head head injuries when rocks fell from a cliff on Seaton Garth beach in Staithes.
Eyewitnesses told the BBC the girl was on holiday with her family and the incident happened where there were warning signs about the cliff.
Staithes coastguards confirmed a section of the cliff fell on the afternoon of August 8, 2018.
In a statement it said: “Numerous calls were made to the emergency services after a section of the cliff fell.
“Thank you to all the Emergency Services, Coastguard Teams and personnel for their very best efforts.”

Have they collapsed before?
It is not yet known whether the cliffs have collapsed or people have been injured in this area before.
Some of the cliffs in Seaton Garth carry signs saying: “Beware dangerous cliffs”.
Locals were left reeling by the incident, with one saying they had “never seen anything like it”.
An inquest will take place in due course.
